EPA approves Alion from Bayer flood irrigation application
The EPA has approved a supplemental label in
California easing the restrictions of flood irrigation
following application of Alion herbicide from Bayer.
Effective immediately, orchards and vineyards of
ston fruit, pome fruit, grapes and tree nuts may
be flood irrigated after a 60-day waiting period
following application of Alion.
Alion is a broad spectrum pre-emerge herbicide that controls many grasses and broadleaf weeds, including glyphosate resistant species, with up to six months of residual pre-emergent weed control, according to Bayer.
Alion is a cellulose biosynthesis inhibitor (CBI) – WSSA Group 20 – which reduces the need for residual tankmix partners, especially in resistant weed situations, according to the company. There are currently no documented cases of resistance to CBI chemistries in the United States. Alion’s alternative mode of action (MOA) helps boost the effectiveness of herbicide resistance management programs by reducing the selection pressure typically caused by overuse of a single MOA, Bayer said.
