Is kiwano the next market favorite?

Kiwano, also known as horned melon, comes originally from Africa, is a herbaceous plant and a relative of the cucumber. The peel of the Kiwano is very hard and uneven. The flesh has a lot of seeds and is watery like cucumbers, but the taste is sweet. The seeds of the horned melon are located in a gluey substance. The peel contains a lot of vitamin C and plant fibers.

A distributor at the Beijing Bali bridge market said that the fruit does not contain a lot sugar and can be eaten with honey, plum powder or mint juice. The distributor started to sell Kiwano at the end of July. During his best days he sold 1 trunk (10 fruits). Currently he is selling 5 or 6 every day. Most of the consumers are young women who like to try new things.

Last year, the price for one Kiwano was about 40 Yuan, but sales were not good. This year, prices dropped to 20 Yuan, because the production of Kiwano in China has increased.
