Michoacan, third largest producer of pears in Mexico

The pear is a juicy fruit that is mainly produced in temperate regions, such as the state of Puebla, and that has a high nutritional content, as it contains vitamins A, B, C, and various essential minerals for the body.

There are more than 30 summer and winter pear varieties, including the Anjou, Bartlett, Bosc, Seckel, and Kieffer varieties, which are amongst the main commercial varieties.

This fruit is mainly used for fresh consumption, preserves, jams and juice.

Mexico's production amounts to just over 24,000 tons of pear. The main producing state is Morelos, with 28.8 percent of the country's total production, followed by Puebla and Michoacan with 20.6 and 20.5 percent respectively. Producers obtain more than 65 percent of the annual harvest between the months of August and September.
