Business at Naki Groothandel (wholesale) in Venlo is doing well. Three years ago Naki Güneser founded the wholesale company, and for a year now they have been located on a 2,300 square meter spacious property at the Fresh Park Venlo business park. He now has twelve employees and three trucks, "Everything's going better than expected. Last year our revenue tripled."
In Morocco, Naki grows beans, bell peppers, watermelons and more, and in Turkey he grows citrus, pomegranates and quinces, "We are the source, and that has great advantages. We always know the current crop situation and we can respond to our customers wishes. Our products remain the same, but we have become much stronger in the last year with these products."
"Our clientele includes people from Germany to the U.K., and France to Cyprus. We mainly focus on the retail side, and in particular, smaller chains with six to ten stores. We also have some customers on the wholesale markets," says Naki. They do not yet work with Cash & Carry, but he does not rule this out as a future possibility.
May to September is the busiest time of the year for Naki, this is also when the large volumes of the Dumara melon from Morocco come in. Exporting to Russia with Moroccan products is not an option, says Naki, "That is just asking for problems." Outside of the season the trader has Dutch greenhouse- and field grown vegetables in order to provide customers with a complete package.
