Northern China: cold spell pushes veg prices up

This coming week Beijing will see its lowest temperatures of this winter so far. According to a fruit wholesaler in the Baliqiao wholesale market, snowfall in November caused a sharp rise in prices. This because the snowfall affected storage and transport of vegetables.

The current cold weather is pushing prices up. Average leaf vegetables wholesale prices sell at 2.7 Yuan, 5% more than last week. A big part of the vegetable production takes place in greenhouses and are therefore less affected by the cold weather.
