Chile: The new commercial attache in England met with Asoex

The new commercial attache of Chile in England, Ignacio Fernandez visited the offices of the Fruit Exporters Association of Chile AG, Asoex. There, he had a meeting with the President of Asoex, Ronald Bown, and the coordinator of Marketing of the same entity, Ignacio Caballero.

"We have a long work history with ProChile and the commercial attaches in the world, which has allowed us to combine efforts to improve the presence of our fruits in different target markets. That's why these meetings are important. Through them, we can better inform the attaches about what our association does and coordinate future actions," said Ronald Bown, president of Asoex.

Bown added that "Britain is an important market within our fruit exports to Europe. Last season, it was the second biggest destination within the European market, as it received more than 91,000 tons of Chilean fresh fruit."

Meanwhile, Ignacio Caballero, coordinator of Marketing of Asoex, spoke about the reality of domestic exports to England and the promotional actions defined for this season, most notably the Chilean blueberry campaign planned for Pancake Day, and the recipes that England's youngest executive chef, Sophie Michell, will make with this fruit this season.

"ProChile's work is uniting domestic supply with domestic demand. In this context, a commercial attache has to promote the Chilean goods and services so that they find importers. We have 55 sales offices in the world," said Ignacio Fernandez, the new Chilean commercial attache is in England.

The professional said that, among other things, a commercial attache has to perform market studies for Chilean fruits, products, and goods, which then are publicly posted on the organization's website. They also coordinate with local authorities to improve the conditions of entry of Chilean products and services.

"We also analyze how a Chilean company can be installed in a particular international market; we find key information regarding the terms, procedures, and other issues needed. These reports are publicly available. In addition, we also perform analysis of how to establish business in a particular market based on cultural patterns and other necessary aspects so that they achieve the best results. We also establish a network of contacts with importers and other key market players in each market so the Chilean growers and exporters can access it more easily," said Fernandez.

Finally, he highlighted the joint work with national associations, such as Asoex, because it allowed the public and private sectors to work in a more orderly and coordinated way within international markets, for the benefit of Chilean fruit.

The new Chilean commercial attache in England will begin his work in early March 2016.
