Mirco Zanelli, Apofruit's new sales manager

"I am committed to develop brand policy and work with the Arab countries and Far East."

Mirco Zanelli is the new sales manager for Apofruit Italia, a large cooperative located in Cesena. FreshPlaza interviewed him about his role within the cooperative, for which he started working in 1995 when he was just 20 years old.

"I mostly had basic tasks during the first few years and then, after working as a warehouse assistant, I started managing various facilities in Emilia-Romagna, Sicily and Apulia. In 2013, I became packaging material purchasing manager and, in 2014, I started as sales manager."

Before his latest role, he worked for over a year alongside Walter Bucella and General Manager Ilenio Bastoni, who was in charge of the tasks he is now responsible for.

An overview of the company and its objectives
"We chose Mirco Zanelli as Sales Manager because he really knows the company. In addition, he has been in charge with coordinating the sales office for over a year. His knowledge of all Aprofruit's structures and its products guarantee the quality of his commitment."

"I would like to thank the managers for the opportunity they gave me. I will work to continue on the same path as my predecessors. What is more, I am committed to develop our brand policy and work with markets such as the Arab countries and the Far East."

The importance of roots
"I believe it is within complex companies like ours that people have the best opportunities to grow, just look at what I have accomplished."

"Nonetheless, I am also convinced of the fact that training and experience within the agricultural world are essential to work in this sector. Understanding how hard it is to work on the fields is the only way to fully grasp the cooperative's responsibility and the mission. While it is true that the market has its rules, if you do not understand how difficult it is to work the land and to not manufacture products in a factory, then being a cooperative loses all its sense."

"The true limitation is trying to convey all this to a market that is often unaware of all the work that goes behind every single fruit. Expo 2015, albeit successful, was a missed opportunity to explain more about working the land. We need to do that to reach the masses."

"Nobody has the perfect solution for everything. I have just recently started in the sales department and I am happy to work with professional operators, an essential part of the relationship we have managed to build with our domestic and foreign clients."
