Argentina wants to recover food markets

The government wants that the country's current agricultural aggregates work strongly to recover positions in the food markets where Argentina lost ground in recent years because of export obstacles.

Currently, Argentina has agricultural attaches in Brazil, USA, China, and the European Union.

"The aggregates primary objective will be to open and reopen markets. We need to recover lost markets and win new ones. In the case of Brazil, for example, we have to regain what we had lost and get new markets," said Marisa Bircher, secretary of the Agribusiness Markets of the Ministry of Agribusiness.

Bircher said her goal was to gain more markets for agricultural products and for the agro-industrial products, such as machinery, services and technology.

Evaluations
In addition, she said, the government is evaluating opening agricultural attaches in Russia and India. Last year Russia was the second largest market, in volume, for pears and apples, among other products.

"We are evaluating this, they could be two great opportunities," said Bircher about the attaches for Russia and India. However, they would not be opened this year, as an analysis of the business projections and of the profiles for the officials that would hold these diplomatic posts must be performed prior to opening them.
