China citrus sales slow

Mayang is a centre of citrus production in the province of Hunan. Hunan citrus is not experiencing strong sales. Normally, by mid-January, 70% of the crop should have been sold. So far, only 32% has been sold. 2015 turned out a big harvest of 450 thousand tons, an increase of 12% compared to 2014. Tangerine production mounted to 300,000 tons.

Increase in domestic fruit production and output has led to the oversupply of certain crops. Decrease in export due to strong competition and strong Yuan increased pressure on the Mayang market.

Mayang is “home of tangerine” in China, is being impacted by multiple factors, purchase price of citrus is low and there are not many buyers from other regions. Slow progress of picking and sale strongly affects the harvest.
