Liquidseal:

Biodegradable polymere ideal for supermarket juicing

A 100% biodegradable polymere for hard skinned fruits, called Liquidseal (allowed as Food Contact Material in the EU), was recently tested in Spain and Holland during the last months of 2015, with a focus on untreated oranges, for juicing purposes. The specific focus is for supermarket juicing, where customers can have oranges freshly squeezed at the moment of purchase.

Supermarkets are increasingly demanding untreated oranges for juicing, without any post harvest treatment (chemicals). Liquidseal fits perfectly into this category as it does not contain any chemicals and is also perfectly suited for this type of application.

The Liquidseal coating has the following benefits:
  • Better quality fruit.
  • Less Losses.
  • Less weight loss.
  • Higher Juice content
In Spain, coldstore testing over the course of 4 weeks has shown losses of 70% or more for non treated oranges, as opposed to losses of a few percent with oranges treated with Liquidseal.

Liquidseal can also be used with any post harvest treatments of your choice. In comparison to standard waxes, oranges treated with Liquidseal retain a healthy skin for a longer period of time, along with less loss in weight.

The company will have their own stand at Fruit Logistica in Berlin. You can find them in hall 3.2, booth D-19.
