Marcel van der Welle, Van Ooijen Citrus:

Turkish minneola market expected to improve

The first Turkish minneola's arrived in small numbers during the week between Christmas and New Year's at Van Ooijen Citrus. According to Marcel van der Welle, the volumes will start to increase next week. Van Ooijen Citrus has the Turkish minneola's available in open 9-15 kilo boxes and works with the Armador and Polat brands, "The crop in Turkey is normal, and the quality of the minneola's is very good. The first arrivals tasted delicious and this will only get better. We are currently receiving supply via trucks and containers."

"The market is very quiet right now, but we are expecting an upturn in the market towards the end of the month," continues Marcel. According to the importer, the Russian boycott has not greatly affected minneola sales, "Minneola's are not a Russian product, so the volumes that were going to Russia were very small. Also, competition from other countries is rarely mentioned. The higher cost price in Israel, for example, has given us very few problems."
