Harvesting of this year's Florida navel orange crop will end just before Christmas. This year’s crop is smaller than in previous years and is expected to end two weeks earlier than last season. Fruit sizing has been much larger this year.“We're expecting to finish around December 18,” said Al Finch of Florida Classic Growers, “which is a couple of weeks earlier than normal.” Fruit sizing is trending larger, with navels peaking on 48s and 56s. Finch added that they're also packing 40 counts this season.
“The overall crop size is down when compared to last year, but we've had a good season with good availability,” said Finch. “Pricing has remained firm due to a smaller-sized crop and strong customer demand.”
