George Thompson Ltd:

William Sibley appointed Non-Executive Director

George Thompson Ltd has announced that Will Sibley has joined the company as a non-executive director.

Will is a familiar face to many in the fruit industry, a leading nurseryman and grafter and has been instrumental in the development of Braeburn and apricots as major UK success stories. Previous roles include past Master of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers, Trustee of Borough Market and East Malling Trust where he was also Chairman. He is currently on the board of the Horticulture Innovation Trust and a Trustee of the National Fruit Collections Trust.

The company is a 3rd generation farming business with a long history serving the wholesale markets and foodservice sector with specialist vegetable crops, the Thompson’s brand is a market leader in the oriental crop sector.

In recent years the company has diversified into orchard production under the Tendring Fruit banner, growing Opal and Braeburn apples and Conference Pears. The company tradition of developing niche crops has also seen success, in apricots, plums and pluots while the farm is host to the UK’s first outdoor fig orchard. Tendring Fruit juices also picked up Great Taste Awards in 2015.

2016 will see an expansion of the Thompson’s range of vegetable products including protected crops, grown in the UK’s largest commercial aquaponics installation by Clearwater Farms, in partnership with Fresca.
