French postal service to deliver fresh fruit and vegetables

La Poste and Kerbio.fr are testing a new service in Rezé. The initiative will be used further afield if it proves a success.

Whilst the amount of letters being sent are decreasing, La Poste is looking for new ideas, their latest is to deliver organic fruit and vegetable baskets.

The company, Kerbio.fr, was launched by the Coteaux Nantais and Provinces Bio. Bernadette Moreau has been chosen to pick up the first package at the MIN (National Interest Market) and to deliver it between 9am-12.30pm, “The test is being done on my route as I am the closest to the MIN” explains the La Poste employee.

This new service, which is a first in the Pays de la Loire, will be tested for a year in the Rezé area.

Patrick Dumont, Director of marketing campaigns in the mail and parcel services branch of La Poste in the Loire-Atlantique-Vendée says that “Today peoples expectations and demands of local services have developed” and that this initiative is in line with La Poste’s postal services. The ageing population and people staying in their homes are also positive factors for cyber commerce.
