Madagascar to export up to 22,000 tons of lychees

Xinhua Thierry Samtio, President of the Lychee Export Group, says that Madagascar hopes to export between 20,000 to 22,000 tons of lychees over the 2015-2016 season. The early lychee harvest ended on the 20th November and a first batch of about 150 to 200 tons are destined for the European market (should arrive by the 15th December). He says that “Thanks to good climate conditions, the lychee harvest this year is good, in both quality and quantity”. Last year Madagascar produced 17,000 tons of lychees in their 7 production regions. Europe is the main importer of lychees from Madagascar.
