Chinese loquat originally a springtime crop

Extreme early start Kunming Loquat season

It is an early start to the Kunming loquat season. A journalist visiting a local market in the province inspected the first crop from Mengzi. Prices vary from about 25 Yuan to 30 Yuan per kilogram for smaller and bigger sizes respectively.

The early matured loquats were relatively small in size and had little taste. Sales are slow as prices are high and there is ample competition of other autumn fruits and citrus.

The volume of loquats currently found on the market is small. Loquats are usually not winter fruit, and the fruit available on the market is particularly early.

Consumers will have to wait until next spring to find loquats in bigger sizes and of better taste.
