According to data from the European Commission, EU imports from Morocco in October of this year amounted to 27,687 tons, 20% more than the imports published by Eurostat in the same month in 2014.
According to this data by the TAXUD service of the European Commission, imports from Morocco have nearly doubled the preferential quota for October, which was established at 14,700 tons in the Association Agreement between the EU and Morocco.
FEPEX expects imports will be much higher because Morocco, under the provisions of the Agreement, has informed the European Commission that its exports in October amounted to 37,635 tons.
FEPEX has reiterated the need for the Association Agreement between the EU and Morocco, which provides for concessions in the tomato sector so that traditional Moroccan exports remain constant and to avoid market disruptions, be fully implemented. Currently the tomato Community market is undergoing a serious crisis with very low prices for all categories.
