The Price Monitoring Committee for the Citrus market has reported Navelina orange prices to be ranging between 0.13 and 0.18 €/kg and those of the Salustiana to be standing between 0.17 and 0.19 €/kg. Such prices are based on trade operations carried out in recent weeks and show that there is room for optimism and increased market activities compared to last year due to the general decline in harvest volumes across Spain.
An analysis and forecast of the quality and production prospects for the province of Cordoba's citrus campaign were also carried out in the context of the first meeting of the members of the Price Monitoring Committee for the Citrus market.
The Committee members, including both producers and marketers, have estimated that Cordoba's citrus production in the 2015/2016 campaign will fall by about 30% compared to last year. This data differs significantly from those presented by the Government of Andalusia in its analysis published more than a month ago, which estimated a reduction of about 9%, but with the campaign already underway, the 30% drop has been proven to be quite a reliable figure, since the Navelina harvest is already at an advanced stage and the Salustiana campaign has already started.
As in previous years, the Committee's goal is to ensure transparency when it comes to current prices in the sector and thereby help producers by providing them reliable information, allowing them to sell their fruit at the right prices depending on the variety, size and quality.
