'You’re not buying a car, you’re buying a processing line!'
The Onion Tech Alliance (OTA) offers a 21st century approach to implement new machinery into processing lines and helps to design the most efficient and best processing lines. Taking into account the customers wishes and helping them design and deliver or perhaps helping them adapt their view on the design. Technology in processing plants is on the rise. Factors such as traceability, quality control, low running costs and good ROI are becoming more important. All of those factors or goals can only be achieved when these factors are implemented into the design of the complete process from the beginning.
“Let us rethink your thoughts”
The expertise within the OTA partners ranges from dust extraction and waste handling, engineering and to quality grading. All facets and challenges within a processing plant can be tackled. The company can help the customer design the plant, see the greater picture and show the savings per kilo per design. A smarter investment results in smarter margins.

Dust extraction and waste handling are good examples of processes and solutions that are only thought of at the end of the line. By helping customers implement good solutions into their processing lines, contamination will become considerably less and working conditions improve. Dust extraction is a very simple and old technology, yet many onion and potato processing plants haven’t considered the basic principles of air technology. A good example is the way most processing plants have simple extraction hoods over their conveyors.
Modesta (dust extraction, waste handling) is a leader in the best wind sifting technologies on the market. Dust and other contamination such as leafage are extracted better and more efficiently. By including these solutions into basic project design, the results will be better, with limited costs. This is a different approach than those followed by most competitors. Cartridge filters clog up very quickly and have a higher filter load, creating high maintenance costs and increasing stress on the system. The systems use a different technology and are designed to create a significant reduction in maintenance (costs) on extraction machinery. With cascading fan sets and compressed air cleaning, 3 mm galvanized thick steel for a solid and more durable construction, the systems differ in many ways from others.
Modesta Blower Beam.
Together with Longobardi (quality grading), Modesta has developed a device to clean, dry and remove dust from the grading lines. The Modesta Blower Beam system provides airflow to dry the cups, remove remaining dust or leafage from the cups and provide a (cost) efficient solution to clean the grading lines. This is a good example of OTA expertise that will reduce cost footprint on the machine and improve customer satisfaction.
