Tunisia expects an “exceptional” date season

Tunisia’s Minister of Agriculture, Saad Sedik, has announced that “this season’s date harvest looks like it will be exceptional in both quantity and quality”. He says that the harvest is estimated to reach 156,000 tons, 12% above last year’s figure. Whilst exports began slowly, they should increase by 18% compared to 2014, reaching 118,000 tons. Saad Seddik has also said that efforts are being made to find new markets for Tunisian dates. These efforts to develop revenues from the agricultural sector are being made following the attacks in 2015 which severely impacted tourism.
