Peru and Ecuador interested in citrus from Valencia

The general director of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Valencia's Regional Government, Roger Llanes, met with representatives of the Ecuadorian company Grupo Rueda, Valencia's Citrus IGP, Valencia's Federation of Cooperatives and the Citrus Management Committee to prepare the export protocols of Spanish citrus for Peru and Ecuador.

In this regard, Llanes highlighted the importance of opening new markets for citrus in the Americas, as Valencia only exported citrus to the United States for an amount of 34.6 million Euro in 2014.

Llanes stated that at present, Peru and Ecuador imported citrus from the United States and that they were considering replacing them with the productions of Valencia, which they consider is more competitive and has a higher quality.

The general director of Agriculture also said that the Ministry already supported Valencia's citrus sector in the field of marketing and that it would continue to support it in its expansion, both in Peru, which has a population of over 30 million inhabitants and a per capita GDP of US $10.679, as well as in other South American countries.

The work of Valencia's government is essential to enable the establishment of trade relations and the implementation of procedures and protocols to protect the safety and health of their exports.
