EU potato trade - harvest progresses

According to the new estimations France expects a yield of 5.1 million metric tons. That is about 18% lower than last years’ harvest. This forecast could have improved the mood on the European market.

The longevity of the potatoes is a dominant theme on the European markets. There are signs that the problems could worsen in spite of the good quality. In the UK and the Netherlands the harvest is about 60% and in Belgium, France and Germany the crops are at the 70% mark.

Overall the estimations have increased slightly. The North-Western European Potato Growers expect a potato harvest of 24.8 million metric ton. This is an increase of 300,000 metric tons compared to the estimation of September. This is still 13% lower compared to last year. The progress of the harvest is still falling short on the previous years.
