France: Virtual vegetable plots for urban dwellers

Apart from shared allotments, how else can people living in towns look after their own vegetable patch? Alexis Delajot lives and works in a town, but has his own vegetable plot, a virtual vegetable plot. The internet client chooses the size of the plot they want and the vegetables that they want to grow. Prices range between €15 to €100 a month, depending on the size of the plot. The online gardeners regularly receive updates on their crops.

Thierry Desforges set up the website and he visits the producers that grow the vegetables and takes photos of them on a weekly basis. The photos are often sent with explications on the different vegetables. “People don’t know what the base of a courgette looks like” explains Thierry Desforges, “it allows people to gain more knowledge about the products they are consuming.”
