Lindner GmbH begins in the Spanish citrus season

First Spanish Premium Diana oranges in 2-3 weeks

The Spanish citrus season has begun. “It will still take ca. 2-3 weeks until the fruits reach the quality criteria for our Premium DIANA table oranges,” fruit importer Wolfgang Lindner of Lindner GmbH, a fruit import and trading company from Frankfurt, explains. “Oranges are already being harvested for supermarkets at the moment, however they are not yet eligible for our brand DIANA.” For this season, Lindner expects adequate quantities of large-caliber fruits at a stable to slightly raised price level compared to last year. “At present, oranges are mostly distributed from overseas, especially South Africa, and have to take long transport roads. Contrary to products from the southern hemisphere, Spanish DIANA oranges come onto the market without the peel being treated with fungus repellents or synthetic conservatives,” Lindner explains. “This way the peel is also edible, which is a considerable mark of quality for oranges.”

Still few lemons
Because of the relatively high temperatures in Spain, the quantities of lemons are still limited. These need a certain coolness to color. “We weren't always able to satisfy demand in the past few weeks,” says Wolfgang Lindner. “As with the oranges, we also think it is important for DIANA lemons that they have not been treated with fungus repellents or synthetic conservatives. We would rather suspend shipments, for example when there has been too much rain, and the fruits have become susceptible to fungi because of the moisture.

Clementines already of reasonable quality
Unlike oranges and lemons, the Lindner suppliers are already able to send some good quality clementines. Occasionally there is a sour fruit among them, which is normal at the start of the season. But here it is expected as well that the Spanish fruits will replace the products from overseas.

Lower temperatures will increase demand
“We expect the peak in the citrus business towards the end of the year,” Wolfgang Lindner explains. “in the last weeks, it was still warm in Germany. However, this appears to be changing now. As temperatures drop, the German consumers’ desire for citrus fruit increases. This pattern can be observed again every year.”

Lindner GmbH has been active in the fruit and vegetable industry for over 30 years, and in that time has grown into a leading wholesale company for fruit, vegetables and convenience products in the Rhine-Main area.

Among these is also the sales company for the traditional brand DIANA, which has a large and growing fan community, especially in Southern Germany. Beside fresh fruit and vegetables as raw products, the Frankfurt wholesale company also offers a comprehensive assortment of dairy- and convenience products. Whether washed, diced, peeled, cut, chopped, quartered, milked or frozen. The fruit trading company offers its customers freshness in every form.
