Chinese importer looks for European apples

“We started export to Russia several years ago. We would export around 50 containers a year, which is not a large volume for us. Since European producers no longer export to Russia we see our export growing. For the coming season I have received a number of orders from new clients,” says Bonny Wang of Long Yuanhong Fruits.

“In the past we have exported apples to Europe. However, due to limited access to sales channels, our export volumes were not big. Our apples have high Brix levels and are crisper than European varieties. As such, I believe they could be a successful product on the European market. We noticed, too, that there is demand in China for European apples and are we exploring opportunities to start import. For this we are currently looking for European importers and exporters to cooperate with."

“Our apples are grown in orchards in Jingning county, Gansu province, in the North of China. The climate here is favourable for apple production. Or main apple varieties are Fuji, Qin Guan, Peng Yuanshuai, Hua Niu and Red Star. This season, apple wholesale prices hover around 6 Yuan per kg. This is 1 Yuan higher than last season. Retail prices are closer to 7 Yuan per kg."

“Our apples are popular in China due to their smooth skin finish and long shelf-life. We pack our apples individually to protect the skin. We started export to different markets in the Middle East. We currently also export to India, Thailand and Singapore. This current season we will export 300 containers more than last season. Our primary export variety is the Hua Niu”.
