China: import apples compete on price

The main crop of the Fuji apple will be harvested later than October. However, some early Fuji varieties have come on the market earlier. Market participants predict that total production will increase by 10% this season. As a result, prices are expected to decrease. Last season the domestic apple market was shaped by high prices but low sales numbers.

Increase in import apples is also affecting the market. Last year, the import of apples from the US, Australia and New Zealand increased by 50% on the international wholesale market in Hangzhou.

Import of apples from the Netherlands and France will start this year. Due to high local apple prices last year, import apples have become competitive on price.
