BestFruit was at Macfrut this year, with several of the country's other companies. 30% of the total banana export comes from Ecuador. According to Elena, it is difficult to stand out as a banana exporter. "That's why we focus extra on quality. In addition to the usual Cavendish variety, we offer organic bananas, baby bananas and red bananas (Macabu)."

Fair price
BestFruit currently exports mostly to the United States. "We are also in talks with companies from Russia, and we are interested in European countries, like Italy," Elena says. The company doesn't grow their own bananas, but they have regular growers where they buy products. "As demand grows, so does the number of growers supplying to us. We believe it's important that our growers, our partners, get a proper, fair price. We feel responsible, and we also want to be transparent in this respect. In addition, we will invest a lot in our growers, in order to be able to supply the highest quality. It's possible that our sales price is a bit higher on average, but that is our added value."
Leader in Ecuador
BestFruit has high expectations. "In 2020 we see ourselves as the leader in Ecuador when it comes to fruit export. We also want to have achieved the highest accreditations and certifications by then. We work exclusively with producers who are treated fairly, and want to contribute to the environment by designing innovative techniques and products."
