2,500 ton vegetable supplies shipped to Hainan

Typhoon Mujigae hits Guangdong

Typhoon Mujigae ('Rainbow' in Korean) has hit China this week. In Guangdong province, a reported nine people have died and over 30,000 more were asked to evacuate. The typhoon came with a number of small-scale tornadoes. Electricity and water supplies were damaged and flights have been cancelled.

Before reaching Guangdon, Typhoon Mujigae hit Hainan province, an island in the South of China. In order to secure food supplies, 2,500 tons of vegetables were shipped to Hainan before the Qiongzhou Strait was closed due to the bad weather. Despite the supply of additional vegetables from China mainland, Mujigae caused vegetables prices to increase in Hainan province. Green vegetable prices went up 25% and the price of Chinese cabbage increased by 5 Yuan per kg.
