"80% of our Egyptian artichokes go to Italy"
A lot of competition
This year, they were the only company from Egypt to take part in Italian fruit and veg trade show Macfrut. "We go to Fruit Logistica each year as well, but we heard that Macfrut is becoming more and more international. We also still see more opportunities in Italy." He notes that in their country, it's difficult to stand out as an exporter. "There are around 400 exporters competing against each other. The fact that we are here, already makes us stand out, of course. We also believe it's important to keep investing in quality. Without high quality, you can't have a long existence as a company. Of course a good relationship with the clients is also paramount."
80% of artichokes to Italy
"The export to Italy increases by the year," the owner goes on to say. "Since 2007, we've been exporting to this country, and the sales of artichokes and iceberg lettuce are going particularly well. 80% of Egyptian artichokes we sell, goes to Italy. The country is usually lacking in production to be able to meet demand. December to February are particular peak months for artichokes, and it looks as though this will increase further."
