Global research into suzuki fruit fly

Researches from fourteen different institutes across the world are working together to study the life cycle and control options of the suzuki fruit fly. Researchers from the US, France, Italy, Japan, South Korea, China and Hungary are mainly looking at the possibilities of organic control with the aid of natural enemies. To do this, more has to be known about the life cycle of the suzuki fruit fly. There are still questions, particularly on the development in low temperatures. So far it was presumed that the fruit fly enters a type of resting state under 10°C, but recent research in Oregon suggests the suzuki fly can continue to develop in low temperatures. Finally, more information is needed on the influence of host plants on the development of the population of suzuki fruit flies. The suzuki fruit fly is present in large swathes of Europe, North America, Brazil, South East Asia and presumably Argentina, Russia and surround countries and parts of North Africa.
