New chairman for Kiwifruit New Zealand (KNZ)

The Board of the kiwifruit industry regulator Kiwifruit New Zealand (KNZ) has today announced the appointment of Kristy McDonald QC as its new Chair.

The outgoing chairman of KNZ, Sir Brian Elwood says Ms McDonald is a highly regarded Queen’s Counsel with a wealth of legal, governance and regulatory experience and a genuine interest in primary industries.

“I am pleased to announce that Ms McDonald will take up her responsibilities from today (30 September) and the industry will benefit greatly from Ms McDonald’s broad ranging skills and experience,” says Sir Brian.

Ms McDonald is a busy Wellington barrister who is a director of a number of boards including the Accident Compensation Corporation and Wairarapa Building Society; she chairs the Judicial Control Authority for Racing and is the former Chair of the Real Estate Agents Authority.

The Board has also recently appointed Geoff Morgan B.Com. as its new Chief Executive, replacing Richard Procter who was in the role for the past 10 years. Geoff has had comprehensive experience in export-oriented industries throughout the world, including seafood and meat. He has had extensive regulatory and marketing experience.

Geoff is a Tauranga resident and current chairman of the Tauranga Boys’ College Board of Trustees.
