Worldwide: Unitec and Zespri won first edition of Macfrut International Award

The first Macfrut International Award ceremony organised by Cesena Fiera and Unicredit was held during the gala dinner at the end of the first day of the fair.

The panel of judges was presided over by FreshPlaza Italia director Rossela Gigli and composed by Luca Lorenzi (Unicredit deputy regional manager) and Beppe Boni (deputy director of "Il Resto del Carlino"), who decided to honour the meaning of Macfrut (machinery + fruit) by rewarding and Italian company in the technology sector and a foreign producer and exporter.

The objective of Macfrut International Award is to reward those companies who work to conquer the foreign markets.

The winners were the Italian Unitec and the New Zealander Zespri and the awards were given by Luciano Cenedese (Head of Unicredit international - Center Italy) to Angelo Benedetti (Unitec chairman) and Callum Kay (Global technical development manager Zespri).

Unitec exports its advanced technological grading and sorting solutions in 50 countries and has branches in France, Spain, Chile, South Africa, Argentina and US. Zespri handles 425 thousand tons of kiwis each year, which are distributed in over 54 countries with a turnover of 1.6 billion NZD. Zespri also collects produce from its partners in the northern hemisphere (Italy, France, Korea and Japan).

Cesena Fiera chairman Renzo Piraccini congratulated the winners and greeted the participants and the president of the Emilia-Romagna region Stefano Bonacini (below) took the opportunity to make some final considerations on the role of the food sector in the Italian export industry.
