Various pumpkins available - Mushroom prices currently very high
“In the mushroom sector, the popular porcini mushrooms are very expensive”, the wholesale trader reports. “People are known to have paid around 20 Euro per score over here. Unfortunately, there are currently less products on the market, because the growing conditions were not optimal this summer.” The chanterelles are currently a bit cheaper, Tolls further explains. They cost between ten and twelve Euro.
The season for pumpkins has also begun. “All possible types are already available. Whether it’s Hokkaido, Butternut or the Bischofsmützen (“bishop’s caps”). Just before the Oktoberfest time they are very popular. Among others, the Düsseldorfer Gemüsegroßhandel will supply the Oktoberfest at the Dusseldorf casemates on the Rhine Promenade with various products this year.
Despite this major event, the wholesale trader must admit that business is currently quiet on the wholesale market. Tolls depicts the situation: “The customer’s interest is currently within limits. For one this has been caused by the bad weather, and furthermore by the holiday season being just behind us. People currently don’t have money. This also impacts customer’s purchasing cycles. Otherwise customers come to purchase every day, but currently they partially come only once every two days. Ultimately it is below the line, but we can already say, that we are currently turning over 25 percent less product.”
