Rijk Zwaan:

‘Variable weather real challenge for field crops’

The Rijk Zwaan Demo Days are taking place again in Fijnaart, Netherlands through the end of October. During the next few weeks, interested parties can view the breeding company's field-crop range at the demo field located on the Eerste Kruisweg 9.

Heavy rain nearly put a spanner in the works, but the Rijk Zwaan demo field is still ready for viewing. Demo field co-ordinator Arno van Oers points out the neat and tidy beds of vegetable crops and sums up the specialities; “We already had an extensive lettuce programme and we are adding variety of new introductions. There are also new varieties in spinach, brassicas, radish and corn salad and we are expecting that novelties in celery will also draw a lot of attention. Many can be found alongside our existing varieties.”

Enhancement via app
Rijk Zwaan introduced the Demo Partner app this year, which enables visitors to scan the varieties while in the field via a QR code. The app links directly to the information pages of the varieties viewed. Visitors can enhance the information with their own photographs and notes, making it possible to view them at a later date or share them with others.

Visitation of the demo field is strictly by appointment only. During a personal guided tour, visitors have the opportunity to view and discuss specific crops.
