Poland exports 20% less apples

The Polish export of fruit and vegetables declined by 18% last season (July 2014 to June 2015) compared to the 2013/14 season. The turnover decreased even more due to the global lower prices for fruit and vegetables. The slowing down of the apple trade due to the Russian boycott greatly influences the recoil of the total export. This was reported by the NFO based on a notice from portalspozywczy.pl based on Eurostat figures.

The total apple export was 20.3% lower than in 2013/14 at a volume of 890,000 tonnes, and 29.5% lower than in the record year 2012/13. What is striking is that the export mainly decreased in the period from April to June. It was 35% lower than in the period a year ago at 264,000 tonnes. The export of cabbage decreased over the entire season by 29% and the export of tomatoes also decreased strongly (-26). Russia rose in 2014/15, by 12.4%.

The biggest increase in export was found in Belarus (+27%). Other countries who gained were Serbia, the Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kazakhstan. There was also a striking amount more exported to North African countries such as Egypt and Algeria. Finally, the export to EU countries also increase. The biggest growth was to Lithuania and Latvia, But Germany remains the biggest buyer of Polish fruits and vegetables.
