Compensation for the Russian veto

Compromís demands Europe aid persimmon

The MEP from Compromís-European Spring, Jordi Sebastià, sent a letter to the Agriculture Commissioner, Phil Hoghan so that persimmon is added to the list of products eligible for aid to compensate for the effects of the Russian veto.

Among others, the agricultural associations and mayors of different municipalities of the Ribera signed the letter, as 90% of the persimmon consumed in Russia comes from that region. In the document, Sebastià requests that the list of affected products be urgently modified to include the persimmon and pomegranates because not doing it "will endanger the continuity of the crop, the increase in production, and turnover that supports thousands of jobs in the Ribera," he said.

The MEP has already stated that Valencia producers have been hit the hardest by the Russian veto.
