Spanish lemon production lower than last year, but within average

Following an exceptional production last year, figures from the AILIMPO on the 2015/2016 lemon season confirm data published in July that shows production decreasing by -23%/2014. This decrease is both part of a cycle and due to weather conditions which affected flowering in the spring. There should be a moderate decrease at the start of the season in Fino/ Primofior, which will continue in to the second half of the season. Rain in September was good for production. The decrease in Primofiori should only be -17%, but it is expected to reach -38% in Verna (to be reviewed over the coming months depending on rainfall.) The total Spanish harvest is not expected to reach over 850,000 tons, which is in the average of the last 7 years.
