Cash-and-carry wholesaler
GoChamp new mushroom supplier
Since April 1, the Netherlands have another mushroom supplier, GoChamp. The company is run by Gerard Thijssen and Frank Goertz. Gerard explains that the supplier unites two production companies: "A grower in Sevenum supplies the chestnut mushrooms, and the white mushrooms are grown in Leende in Brabant. We also have a grower in Germany, where we get white mushrooms, chestnut mushrooms and oyster mushrooms. We also buy various products from traders."
Small traders
Sales occur through a cash-and-carry system at Fresh Park Venlo. Gerard's company is unique in this respect: "In our sector, we are the only ones to offer this supply method. In this concept, we focus on small shipments for small traders like retailers. Our competition is mainly other fruit and veg traders that stock mushrooms. We do stand out here, because our specialization brings along a wide range of products, from chanterelles, Asian mushrooms like enoki and shiitake, to beech mushrooms."
Spring is always a mushroom season, and they notice that at GoChamp as well. Gerard says demand is good, and the white mushrooms are seeing the highest sales: "Because of the freshness and quality, this popular mushroom remains a top seller."
