Avocados becoming popular in China
The market for avocados is pretty stable at the moment. “US production finished up and Mexico is our main supplier,” says Nils Goldschmidt with Terra Exports. “Mexico goes pretty much year-round,” Goldschmidt added. “However, throughout the year we also source within the US, Peru, Chile, South Africa, Israel, Australia, Kenya and Colombia.” Currently, Terra Exports ships avocados to Dubai, Hong Kong and China.
“Although US avocado consumption has increased significantly in recent years, there is still room for growth,” mentioned Goldschmidt. China however, is the big driver of avocado consumption as the country is just starting to eat avocados. “It is a huge opportunity, but avocado supply to China is limited by Mexico, Chile and Peru. Within these countries, only certain regions have approval to ship to China as the country has very strict regulations.”
Terra Exports focuses on providing year-round high quality fruits. The company sources its produce in about 27 different countries around the globe and ships to 31 countries. To serve its clients, Terra Exports has offices in Miami, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Europe, Chile, South Africa and Colombia.
