South African worker strike

Ceres Fruit Growers’s MD issues statement

Statement from Francois Malan:

“No agreement has yet been reached in the wage negotiations and strike action with FAWU and Ceres Fruit Growers. Today, I accepted a memorandum from striking workers marching on our Ceres offices. While the strike is not over, and we remain at a standstill, we do have agreement to meet in the next days to negotiate together with the support of the CCMA.

“It remains difficult to calculate the financial impact of the strike, although we have already succumbed to millions of Rands damage to our facility following arson and malicious damage to property. Once our fruit reaches its destination we will have a better idea of the financial impact”, he ends.
