Expoalimentaria now largest food platform in Latin America

The Expoalimentaria Fair consolidated itself as the largest food trading platform in Latin America (LA) as its latest edition this year reported $830 million in business commitments between the more than 580 exhibitors, said the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

The head of the sector, Magali Silva, said that at that time the commercial counsellors of the Commercial Office of Peru Abroad (OCEX) Beijing, Bogota, Los Angeles, Miami, Paris, Sao Paulo, Santiago and Toronto, provided advice.

She also said that they had established links with more than 100 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) selected by Promperu from different sectors, such as fishery products, miscellaneous manufacturing, services, clothing and jewellery; many of which have received training through the Export Route Program.

Additionally, with the support of PromPeru, more than 15 companies and producer associations participated in the Peruvian pavilion at the Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong, which was held between September 2 and 4, where they were able to achieve business commitments for more than $100 million dollars; more than 14% than what was achieved in the 2014 edition.

The Commercial Office of Peru in Shanghai stated that companies from China, Hong Kong, and Korea have had a big demand for grapes (particularly the Red Globe variety), mangoes, citrus and avocado, which promises to become the Peru's new export star to Asia.

Once again, the Commercial Office of Peru in Beijing, in coordination with PromPeru, took part in the Fruit and Vegetable Fair (FVF) 2015, where the Peruvian avocado generated great expectations after the recent opening of the Chinese market for this product.

The Peruvian delegation consisted of five Peruvian exporters, the Association of Agricultural Producers Guild of Peru (AGAP), and officials of the National Service of Agrarian Health (Senasa).
