"Erik-Jan Thur: "Good market first Satsumas (Iwasakis)"

Pardo mandarin season starts at Marni Fruit

Marni Fruit is kicking off the European mandarin season with Satsumas from its regular supplier Pardo. "We're a bit earlier than last year," says Erik-Jan Thur. "There are enough Spanish mandarins available, also of larger sizes. I'm expecting a good market for the first Satsumas (Iwasaki)."

The importer says the first mandarins have a good colour and taste. "The first responses from customers are very positive. Scandinavian buyers are always early on the market for the new mandarins, and they highly appreciate the fresh sweet flavour. On the other hand, a country like Denmark traditionally waits for the first Clementines before switching."

"The citrus market has been good all summer. In addition to South African mandarins, there are still some Peruvian Nadorcotts on the market, but supplies aren't that high. We're starting with a decent price level of around 1.10 to 1.20 Euro per kilo for the good calibres."
