The Chilean Nurseries Association (AGV) had a high participation in the talks and numerous visits to their stand in the 2015 version of Expoalimentaria Peru, in which it participated thanks to ProChile and where it presented consumers and agricultural companies with the best qualities of the plants produced in Chile.
"Chilean Nurseries aim to grow through exports to Latin America. Considering the important boom in fruits Peru has been experiencing for some years, we are a strategic partner to support the projects of Peruvian entrepreneurs as we can provide them with the best genetics and quality plants available, largely ensuring the success of their investments," said Maritrini Lapuente, general manager of the AGV who led the Chilean plants Symposium on the final day of Expoalimentaria.
In these talks, Daniela Saavedra, who is in charge of the projects of AGV, said Chile had the potential of being a genetic platform for Latin America, highlighting the positioning of the Chilean plants' health and quality. "In the last season we exported about 128 million plants mainly to South America, which has allowed us to enter the 40 main supplier countries of these products," she said.
Meanwhile, Sara Vial, representative in Chile of the partnership project Plantae, Chile's leading exporter of plants, spoke about the logistics involved in the sale of Chilean plants to Peru, which together with Brazil and Ecuador has become the largest foreign market for the Chilean Nursery industry. This has resulted in a fluid trade of vine cuttings, avocado buds, and strawberry, pomegranate, raspberry, cherry, and blueberry plants, among others, between the nurseries and Peruvian producers.
In addition, during the search for new business niches, Benjamin Zschau, from Agricultural Llahuén presented the characteristics of different varieties of strawberry with production potential in Peru. Afterwards, the director of Sunnyridge Nurseries, Marcela Zuniga, illustrated the most important qualities of cranberries being worked in the neighboring country. Meanwhile, Luis Viveros Ansoleaga, representative of Nurseries Richter, spoke about the most important technical points for the management of vine plants in high performance crops.
Invitation for Planttrade 2015
According to the Exporters Association of Peru (ADEX), the seventh edition of the Expoalimentaria generated business for $ 800 million dollars, and there was room for international conventions related to new market trends for the food industry, and stands of companies in the processed foods and beverages, machinery, equipment and supplies, food service and restaurants sectors.
The president of AGV president and vice president of Fedefruta, Jorge Valenzuela Trebilcock, was pleased with the participation of the industry in the fair organized in Lima: "Exporting is the natural next step in the development of our sector. Thanks to SAG, we have the necessary phytosanitary protocols to import our plants, not only Peru, but also in Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil, so we have opportunities to continue growing commercially."
The Nurseries Association of Chile took the opportunity to invite Peruvian producers of fruits and vegetables to participate in the 2015 version of the Convention and Business Roundtable Planttrade where they can make contact with Chilean nursery companies, conduct business meetings and learn about the country's varietal quality offer. Planttrade will be held with the support of ProChile within the framework of PMA Fruittrade Latin America, on November 11 and 12 at Espacio Riesco, Santiago.
