Avocado producers from the department of El Paraíso are now being trained in the area of administration, not only of their farms, but also for the marketing of their crops. The Service of Agricultural Education, Training and Agro-Business Development (Seduca), a dependence of the SAG, is boosting the training.
According to Sayda Conde, Coordinator at Seduca, the goal of this training is to educate producers about how to correctly manage their companies, as well as to provide them with technical assistance. "Currently, two different varieties of avocado seeds have been planted in the country: the Hass avocado from Mexico and one from the Dominican Republic. However, we are trying to introduce a seed from Haiti to have a greater variety of production," said Conde.
As part of the actions to support domestic producers, a census is being implemented in order to identify how many producers are dedicated to this crop. Another project that is being planned in this sector is to promote brands, said the expert, as we are seeking to interest the State in promoting the national harvest. According to Reiniery Rodríguez, President of the Association of Producers of Hass avocado, they currently have 30 members from Francisco Morazán, Olancho, and El Paraiso. "Promoting the exchange of knowledge is also important for us," said Rodriguez.
