Strawberry production Madagascar halved due to rain

Strawberry production has seen a large decrease this year. Jean Pierre Rakoto, President of the Association of Strawberry Producers in the Atsimondrano district explains that whilst last year at the same time they were producing about 5 tons daily, “it is hard to reach even half of that at the moment”. Rain at the beginning of the year is being blamed for the situation.

The association manages to sell 3 tons of strawberries a day at 2,000 Ar./kilo. The season should have been in June, but due to the rain it has been delayed to September.
