Reduced supply and demand

Strawberries: Prices orient upward

The supply of German fruit was reduced considerably. This shows from the BLE market report of CW 34/15. Of course demand is limited during colder weather, so that expected and targeted price increases could not be pushed through.

Not until Wednesday, with better weather and more interest, did demand successively increase. The markets reported a broad price span, caused by very inconsistent qualities. For instance in Berlin they paid up to € 2.50 per 500-gram tray, while standard products in Frankfurt were just € 1 per 500 grams. In Hamburg, some parties had to be given away.

In some places, Dutch and Polish products were supplemented and which were quite convincing regarding their organoleptic qualities. Belgian shipments, which were normally cheaper, were also occasionally found.
