New deep-water harbor Bronka receives container bridges from Liebherr

On August 16, the delivery of the first two container bridges STS P167 L (WS) from Liebherr manufacturers took place in the new Baltic Sea harbor Bronka. With their booms with a reach of 51 meters, the high-performance container bridges are able to load and unload the furthest 18 containers parallel on deck, and in twinlift-mode they have a lifting capacity of 65 tons each. Thus the multi functional transhipment facility Bronka is best equipped to handle the most modern Post-Panamax-Plus ships. In the first expansion level, deep-water harbor Bronka will be equipped with four Post-Panamax container bridges. The container bridges were manufactured in the Rostocker Liebherr factory.

“In the newBronka harbor, we use only highly efficient equipment and the latesttechnologies. The STS Liebherr cranes are equipped with modern rotation speedcontrol systems, an advanced guidancesystem for the loaders with a high torsional stiffness, as well as top-qualitymetal structures,” says Alexei Shukletsov, CEO of Port Bronka.

It isalready the second trade ship that calls into port Bronka before its official commissioning, which is planned for September 2015. In June, the “Meri” from the Finish portHanko delivered the first three of ten RTG cranes from the Finishcrane manufacturer Konecranes. The cranes can stack 1 to 5 standard containers, can bridge a stacking width of six containers plus loading- and unloadingtrack, and have a carrying capacity of 50 tons under spreader.

The modernterminal facilities of deep-water harbor Bronka and the newly createdport-access canal enable admission and handling of Post-Panamax ships with aslot capacity of up to 8,100 TEU. Withthe first expansion stage in September 2015, the water depth should be 11.2meters.  Towards the end of the year, awater depth of 14.4, 16.0m is actually planned, which will yetagain improve the competitive position of the new transshipment facility.Bronka, the new outer harbor to St. Petersburg, is thus an excellent complementto the present terminals of St. Petersburg harbor, which have neither the technology nor water depth required for handling large vessels.
