Peru exports Hass avocado to Japan for the first time

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI), Juan Benites, stated that Peru had sent its first official shipment of 21.5 tons of Hass avocado to Japan. A shipment that materialized thanks to the meeting between the health authorities of both nations in March 2015, in which the acceptance of the sanitary protocol for the exportation of this fruit proposed by the national service of agrarian health (SENASA) was confirmed.

In this regard, the head of MINAGRI, said that, "as this process has already been solved, the technical stage of the negotiations for the entry of Hass Avocado into the Japanese market has been completed."

The press release provided by the technical secretariat of the SENASA also states that this first shipment of Hass Avocado to the Japanese market was carried out by the agricultural company Hoja Redonda.

Moreover, Arturo Medina Castro, general manager of the Association of Producers of Hass Avocado of Peru (ProHass), said that this shipment strengthened Peru as an export power of avocados, which will be ratified between September 13 and 18 in Lima, during the World Congress of Hass Avocado.

He also said that Peru would send its second container of Hass Avocado to Japan, which belongs to the Avocado Packing Company, the same company that sent the first container to the Chinese market, this Friday.
