US: Forecast cranberry production up slightly
The forecast for this year’s cranberry crop is 8.41 million barrels. This number is just up a little from the 8.4 million barrels produced last year, according to a USDA report released on August 13.
Wisconsin, the US’ largest cranberry producing state, reported damage due to cold winter temperatures. Despite the damage, most growers reported a normal to slightly better than normal season up until now. In Massachusetts, the second largest growing state, some growers were optimistic about this year’s crop while others were repairing bogs and some reported problems with insects. Oregon and Washington producers expect 2015 to be a good year due to favorable weather conditions.
The table below shows an overview of previous years’ production levels as well as the forecast for this year.
