German early apples are ripe!

Consumers can now finally fall back on apples from domestic production, as over the past few days, the harvest of the first early apples began in the Rhineland. This is indicated by the Provinzialverband Rheinischer Obst- und Gemüsebauer.

Early apples are very juicy and refreshing. They are generally not as sweet as the later sorts of apples, however. Because they have only a short shelf life, many food retailers unfortunately don’t include early apples in their assortment.

That is why names such as Mantet, Astramel, Discovery, Jamba or Sunrise are unknown to many consumers, because they are only obtainable directly from the farm, at the weekly market or through specialized fruit stores. Particularly liked among consumers is the “Delbarestivale”, which is very similar to Elstar or Gala with regards to taste.
